This week, ahead of International Mine Awareness Day on April 4, our teams in Vietnam welcomed US Ambassador Marc Knapper to our operations in Quang Binh, where he witnessed MAG’s life-saving work firsthand and received updates on a US Government-funded joint humanitarian project focused on clearing unexploded ordnance in the region.

The project – a collaboration between MAG, Norwegian People’s Aid, and PeaceTrees Vietnam – is supported by the US Department of State. Since its launch in 2020, it has made significant progress in reducing the impact of explosive remnants of war.
To date, the project has:
- cleared over 47km² of land
- safely destroyed more than 29,000 explosive items
- brought safety to nearly 33,500 people – 3.74% of Quang Binh’s population

The visit highlighted the continued need for mine action efforts in Vietnam. While progress has been made, unexploded ordnance remains a deadly threat to many communities.

MAG is grateful for the steadfast support of Ambassador Marc Knapper, the US Embassy in Vietnam and the US Government in addressing the legacy of unexploded ordnance, restoring land for development, and creating safer communities across the country.
