MAG US has appointed a new Executive Director to head up its operations in Washington DC.

Shari Bryan brings extensive NGO leadership experience and relationships with a wide network of stakeholders in the government, donor and philanthropic communities of the US.

As Executive Vice President at the National Democratic Institute, Shari led a global non-profit organization with 1,300 employees in 65 countries, working directly with foreign political leaders and civic partners on issues related to democracy, governance, electoral integrity and conflict prevention.

She has decades of experience managing relationships with donor aid agencies, including the US State Department, USAID, European governments and multilateral organizations, as well as with philanthropic organisations, individual donors and corporations. Before serving 13 years as Executive Vice President, Shari spent nine years as Country Director in Nigeria and Director for Southern and Eastern Africa.

Most recently, Shari was Managing Partner at Aegean Strategies in Washington, DC, where she provided strategic management advice on international development strategies, sustainability and risk management.

Shari takes up her position immediately and will join the global MAG Leadership Team as part of her new role.

She said: “I am pleased to be joining an organisation that does so much for communities afflicted by conflict and armed violence. The work of MAG has never been more important and I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues across the world, and our incredible partners here in the US, to support them in their efforts to alleviate the suffering of the millions of people worldwide.”

MAG US Chair Ambassador (Ret.) Dan Clune said: “I am very confident we have identified in Shari a candidate who can add significant value not just to MAG US but also to the wider organisation, helping us to cement existing relationships and forge new ones that will accelerate and deepen the positive impact we seek to have through our programming.”

MAG Chief Executive Darren Cormack said: “Shari’s extensive leadership experience will strengthen our organisation as we deliver on a strategy that promises to increase our impact and influence over the next five years.”
