The campaign goal is to raise $50,000 to clear UXO in Khammouane, Laos.
What will $50,000 accomplish?
This will fund one clearance team in Khammouane, Laos for five months. The clearance team will identify, remove, and safely destroy UXO to make an area the size of 25 football fields safe.
The project will purchase the necessary equipment, hire and train personnel, uniforms, boots, metal detectors, etc. Also, a key component of this project is to educate the local population on how to avoid UXO.
Why Laos?
During the Vietnam War Laos was the most heavily bombed country per capita. Khammouane province was a target for US bombing with the goal to disrupt a key North Vietnamese supply route. More than 110,000 bombing missions were conducted across Khammouane, Laos.
Nearly five decades since the war ended, these deadly UXO still remain active and are a threat of death or injury for girls, boys, women and men. Across Laos more than 50,000 people have been killed, or injured, many of them children.
